KiD CuDi

Why is he so good?

"People told me 'Slow my role',
I'm screaming out 'Fuck that',
Ima do just what I want,
Lookin' ahead, no turning back,
If I fall, If I die, know I lived it to the fullest,
If I fall, If I die, know I lived it missing bullets

I'm on a pursuit of happiness and I know
everything that shines ain't always gonna be gold
I'll be fine once I get it,
I'll be good..."

Argumentative

I think

I would

hate me

want to punch me

shut me up

if I got into an argument with myself.
My opinions don't make any sense.
And yet I'm so opinionated.
Freaking r'tard.

This is what happens when I drink a Monster trying to do schoolwork. Efff.

First Try

I love Hip Hop music in different ways.  Whether it be the soulful bootyshakin' beats, provocative female-degrading lyrics, or random dance fads, I love the music genre as a whole.  However a lot of these qualities of Hip Hop thin out the true soul and passion put into music.  In R&B and Soul, it's easy to see passion when you listen to that kind of music; you know when a singer is really singing their soul out or not, as if the song they're singing is a part of them that they're releasing.  They hit tones and octaves not normal to their regular speaking voice.  They squint their face as if the lyrics they sing are painful, yet pleasurable at the same time.

One thing I love about Hip Hop is that it's nearly impossible to tell passion just from looking at a performance.  It's all about the lyrics.  A performer can make the most genuine, painful/pleasurable face ever, but the lyrics could be about banging a hooker with blingbling and a gun.

That leads me to first albums/mixtapes of Hip Hop artists.  People say Hip Hop is washed up, full of stupidity involving only money, hos, bling bling, and violence.  These people are correct - a lot of commercial hip hop concerns only those bootylicious topics.  BUT what you can't say is that Hip Hop is completely engulfed in that stuff.

This REALLY leads me to first albums/mixtapes of Hip Hop artists.  When rappers want to make it big, they put their HEARTS and SOULS into the first tapes/cd's they make.  Some people spend years perfecting lyrics and sounds to make it as presentable to listeners as possible.  They open their hearts and show you their lives through the lyrics they spit on each track.  Listen to Nas's Illmatic, and you'll be blown away.
Eminem's Infinite.
Blu's Below the Heavens.
J. Cole's Come Up and Warm Up.
Biggie's Ready To Die.
Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt.
Even Kanye's College Dropout.  Amazing stuff.

I'm not saying everyone's first albums/mixtapes are good.  But definitely take the time to listen to an artist's first album/mixtape before you judge their arrogant superstardom.  As much as I hate Kanye's stupid arrogant selfish antics in his recent albums and in public, I still have a place in my heart for him and his music because of College Dropout.

With that said, due to this theory of mine, I have been listening to J Cole's Warm Up NONSTOP.  Can't stop listening to it.  He definitely pours his soul out on each track.  Doesn't try hard to be good; he just is.  I highly recommend his mixtape.  And as sad as I am that he got signed with Jay-Z, I'm extremely happy that a dude as talented as he is is with a huge name like Jay-Z.  No matter how commercial he gets (like Drake - RIP), I will always have a place in my heart for this mixtape, along with all those other classics.

I <3 Hip Hop.

College Dropout fan forever,

Fire Alarm

Before every midterm, final, quiz I take at UCLA, I wish there'd be a HUGE fire burning causing the fire alarms to go off which causes the hazard sprinklers to engage, resulting in soggy papers previously known as our exams.  Then terrorists come and hold the professors and TA's as hostages, making me react compulsively, disarming the terrorists quickly and detaining the situation at hand.  Then the professors, as they get up soaked from the water and sweat from fear, thank me in the most sincere way.  And I say it's nothing because my heart is still pumping super fast and adrenaline is taking over my body.  Then I grab my pack, swing it around my shoulder, wink at the professor and say, "Thank YOU for an A, professor" and I walk out into the sunset as the professor watches me go, with an awestruck expression on his face.  Then I get an A and become a hero.

Mad, Sad, Glad

I'm beginning to

Super Duper

Last night, around 3 or 4 am, I came to a decisive conclusion:

I will be staying for 5th year.

Sigh, that just means another year of UCLA undergraduate studies, where anal engineers will compete in every way possible to screw me over.  Assholes....

Anyway, the decision was not based on whether or not I'd be able to finish up my courses for my major.  The reason I decided on my Civil Engineering major in high school was because I wanted to go into Environmental studies, more than structural or geotechnical.  The "easiest" AP class at Temple City was considered APES (Environmental Studies) and supposedly our school didn't too well on the AP test because the teacher was so lenient and easy.  I got a 4 without studying and I really enjoyed the coursework, which then made me realize that I wanted to go more into that field of engineering.

So now here I am at UCLA forced to take structural and the oh-so-disgusting geotechnical courses that I have to take in order to graduate with a Civil Eng. degree.  I always had an idea of what I wanted to concentrate in for my major (and what I didn't *cough piece-of-shit-geotechnical cough*), but now the answer is clear:  I will be graduating with a Civil Engineering degree from UCLA in 2012 with concentrations in Structural and Water Resources Engineering, along with an Environmental Engineering Minor.

Sounds awesome huh?

So thank you Lord for providing me with another year of UCLA, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, Rose Bowl & Pauley Pavilion, Coach Neuheisel & Howland, and Westwood Village.  People probably aren't too happy about 5th year, but I'm all smiles.

All hail Westwood! (copyright Jay Chung)
