E - Eggs

Back to the Alphabet Aerobics (which I last used in January).

E is for Eggs.

My favorite style: Sunny-side up.

As a kid, I would love poking at the yolk, and watching it bleed and seep out. Yum. My parents made me eat every part of the egg, so I grew accustomed to eating the watery yolk part. People hate the yolk, saying it tastes nasty or saying it has no nutrients and is very bad for you. Um, I don't care.

Just the name of the cooking style and the joy I have of poking at the yolk makes the Sunny-side up egg one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever. Sprinkle a little salt, poke the yolk, and enjoy! I like using a piece of toast to scoop up the runny yolk sometimes. Man, I'm getting hungry.

I just have good thoughts when I think of a Sunny-side egg. I remember my dad cooked the egg for me and my sister one time, and I asked him to not poke the yolk and to not overcook it. So he did his thang, and placed the egg on my plate. When I went to eat it, the yellow part looked perfect. Super round and yellow and ready to be poked. Everything was good until I looked at the white parts of the egg; the white part was definitely not cooked enough, runny, and messed up my entire breakfast. I remember eating it anyway because I did not want my dad to be upset. The taste of the entire egg was like swallowing snot. Or just eating a raw egg. But I always remember my dad pretending like he knew what he was doing while cooking the egg. The end.

D - Dances

D is for Dances.

High school dances in particular. Hahaha.

Just thinking back at high school dances, they seem SO lame. Don't get me wrong, I loved going to dances and preparing for dances and the whole shindig. But once you graduate and stuff and look back at the importance of dances, you realize dances are not of the greatest importance to the rest of your life. But I must say, the whole dance experience was fun. These are probably the things that stick out the most/that I enjoyed the most:

a) Finding a girl to ask.
This was always the hard part #1. You always wanted to find a girl who was "cool" or generally in good terms socially with your peers. If you went with a random/nobody girl, then people would think you were uncool. But of course, you wanted it to be a girl who was a friend of yours, because if she wasn't your friend in the first place, it would end up to be a pretty awkward night. So once you have the girl in mind, you HAD to tell your friends. This slowly started the word through the grapevine, so that at least other people knew that the girl was part of YOUR property. The month before dances were always interesting and full of excitement.

b) Asking the girl.
This whole process was complex and at times, nerve-wrecking. You always wanted to have a cool way to ask the girl, but it never should have been too out-of-this-world. I always liked to do some online research before asking a girl; reading things online allowed me to know what people have done, how extreme people were willing to be, and gave me inspiration to think of ways to ask my dates in a creative manner. I think the hour/few minutes right before it happens was soooo tense because of the nervousness of the whole situation. A method I liked from back then was a balloon one; I put words of a sentence onto little notes and put them into balloons. Then I left the balloons and a pin at the girl's house and she had to pop the balloons to find the notes, which then "popped" the question, "Will you go to [whatever dance] with Charles?"

c) Corsage.
I HATED buying corsages. It was quite literally 3-5 flowers with ribbons, glitter, and a sweatband for the wrist. $30+ for that crap?! Hailzzzz nah. I still don't understand why or how corsages are a traditional part of dances or any formal occasion.

d) Denny's.
I think Denny's is THE SPOT to go to after high school dances. It was never too expensive, open until late, and it was fun to hang around there after getting all sweaty at the dance. I mean, it wasn't always Denny's, but Denny's was the generic place to go to.

High school dances were definitely fun. There truly is nothing like it once high school ends.

B - Basketball

Fact:
When I was little, what I wanted more than anything in the world was to be a professional basketball player. I was like that until maybe 3rd or 4th grade. Now that I am 19, I now that that dream is completely done for, unless all the pro basketball players quit and the NBA asks all 5'8'' Korean college kids to play professionally.

I freaking LOVE playing basketball, but WHILE I play, I always feel frustrated or angry or annoyed either by myself or by the people I'm playing with. But I think playing sports always does that to guys because we're all so competitive. But I never feel satisfied when I play; I always feel like I need to play ONE more game after I finish my "last" game. But that's part of the joy that the sport brings to me. I love that it's team game, yet ONE above-average player can make all the difference for a team. It's like an oxymoron, kinda. Like how I love to play, but while I play I don't feel happy or full of joy. And like how I love watching the Lakers, but while I watch them I'll be super critical of all of their mistakes.

In the end, it's pure LOVE that I feel when I think of basketball. It's the first sport I fell in love with, and it most likely will be the sport I will play most often for the rest of my life.

Screw golf, I want to be able to drain 3 pointers when I'm 50 years old.

A - Acrylick

I think Acrylick is one of my favorite brands. I'm not even sure who started it or how they started, but I love their designs. That's the whole point right? Their brand is based on sending out a message through their designs and clothes. I may not see it in all of their clothing, but a lot of designs are made to be interpreted in some way. They use hip hop, girls, kids, and Los Angeles to show their souls and the people they are. I think unlike the bigger streetwear brands, Acrylick comes out with small samples of designs (probably because they are relatively new), and they almost never water themselves thin. If I were to choose a brand most similar to who I am, I would probably choose Acrylick. They're even located in the 626! Props to Acrylick - I will support your cause.

Alphabet Aerobics

I want to post regularly. So to plan my posts, I will use one word starting with the post's appropriate letter (starting with A, going through Z), and blog about it. I just wanna see if I can go through with it. So without further adieu...
